FLAGSTAFF, AZ–May 4, 2015–The high altitude community of Flagstaff is home to one of the most picturesque private residential golf communities in Arizona – Forest Highlands Golf Club. For nearly thirty years, Forest Highlands has been helping its members to connect and celebrate life as families. Nestled in the largest contiguous ponderosa pine forest in the world, the community is a desirable getaway for summertime activities for the whole family. Early this year Forest Highlands Golf Club began the significant undertaking of finding a General Manager and Chief Operating Officer.
Forest Highlands Golf Club is a member owned Association led by a nine-member Board of Directors. Various committees also aid in the direction of the club. A volunteer committee was formed to seek out candidates for the position from a national search utilizing Kopplin & Kuebler, a leading club industry executive search firm. After review of the final candidates, the selection committee unanimously agreed that William Griffon was the right choice to lead Forest Highlands.
Bill has been the General Manager at Blackstone Country Club in Peoria, AZ since 2011. He was instrumental in its significant membership growth and high level of member satisfaction. Bill started his career in 1990 with Hyatt Hotels. During 13 years with the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Griffon held managerial positions in locations ranging from Waikoloa, Hawaii to Washington, D.C. After a position as General Manager at The Lodge at Sea Island (GA), he served as Vice President at the prestigious Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, after which he became the General Manager of the Seven Falls Golf and River Club in North Carolina before joining Blackstone Country Club in 2011. “Bill has a distinguished and broad background in both the hospitality and club industries, he will serve the needs of the Forest Highlands community well.” said Board President Robert Scott.
When asked about Forest Highlands Bill said, “Joining the team and trusted to lead a community like Forest Highlands, with two world class golf courses, outstanding facilities and a vibrant membership is a unique opportunity. Couple that with an upcoming $6.5 Million renovation that will take place at the end of the 2015 season, that will upgrade both Clubhouses, adds additional excitement to my new assignment.”
A financially sound association, Forest Highlands is 100 percent member-owned. The community is frequently referred to as a “tranquil paradise” by those who visit; complete with two nationally-recognized golf courses designed by renowned architects Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, acres of natural preserves, a tennis center and a limitless array of activities and other amenities.
